The Coffee: Once Over offers coffee from Wild Gift, which the owners of Once Over, Jenée and Rob partly own. Wild Gift supplies not only Once Over but many other coffee shops in Austin. All coffee is made to order, and they offer two blends and several other roasts from Central America, Africa, and Indonesia. Once Over also provides some local Austin craft brews.
The Atmosphere: The shop, as in the words of the Jenée one of the owners, reminds people of what Austin was like in the 90s. It has that old-school Austin feel before everything became so commercialized and expensive. That has been the main factor that draws the patronage into the shop, and it is not out of the ordinary to see groups of people just hanging out and chatting with the baristas and other patrons.
About the Shop: I was able to chat with Jenée Ovitt one of the Owners of Once Over. Jenée and Rob, the founders, started their adventure into the Coffee world in Ashville North Carolina. They first started Izzy’s Coffee Den. Jenée recalled, that they initially had no extensive interest in coffee itself, they just wanted to run their own business and have the ability to be their own boss. After getting into the coffee business, they became experts and gained a passion for great coffee. The ended up Selling their Ashville shop and started Once Over in 2009 in South Austin. Once Over is now an established part of the Austin Community.
